That Still Small Voice

John 10: 1-5 I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a strangers voice.

John 10: 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

These scriptures tell us very plain, that if we belong to God, we will hear his voice.

This is one of the most common struggles among believers; hearing Gods Voice.
* What does God want me to do?
* Should I take this job or that job?
* Should I marry this person? Or date that person?
* Is this the right road to be walking on?
We all want to be able to hear Gods voice.

Today I am going to address this issue of hearing Gods voice in a very simplistic manner.

We are going to run an Experiment that shows us how to relate our everyday abilities to hearing God.

I said in a simplistic manner, not quite one.

Learning to hear Gods still small voice requires intimacy, focus and effort.

Just as these husbands were able to get to their destination because they knew their wives voice, so we too can get to our destinations by knowing Gods voice.

How can we hear Gods voice?

1.Know the person talking.

If I tell Al he is to follow Stellas voice, will he be able to? NO He does not even know Stella and he definitely does not know the sound of her voice.

The same is with God.

Knowing God is a vital foundation to hearing His voice:
* We get to know God through his Word.
* His Word tells us what he is like

2. God speaks from within

The next thing we must learn in order to hear Gods voice is that:
* Gods voice is not heard from the without, it is heard from within.

Unfortunately, many in the Church miss the great blessing of fellowship with our Lord because we have lost the ability to recognize His voice within us.
God speaks to us through his Holy Spirit.

“Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (I Corinthians 3:16)

3. Do not make it complicated

1 King 19:11-13 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

We expect God to speak to us in BIG Ways: In the wind, an earthquake, a fire or as writing on the wall.

But more often than not He manifest himself in a “still small voice”—Renaissance English for “a soft, whispering murmur”; that is, a breeze.

Indeed, the message of these verses seems to be that God need not appear to men embodied in great natural forces , though he certainly can do this, but may also reveal himself directly, softly, and personally, like a voice in the mind.

The apostle Paul said, I will go preach in Bythinia. But the Holy Spirit said, No, I want you to go preach in Macedonia (Acts 16:6-10).

Do not disregard that still small voice inside your mind.

The more you listen and heed it, the more you will identify it as God and the more you will hear him.

We all have the ability to hear God, We need to:
* spend more time with him
* listen in our mind, conscience, spirit
* quite making it complicated.

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
